The Region: Montepulciano

Montepulciano has a unique location, 45 minutes from Montalcino, southeast of Siena. It is within easy reach of Val d’Orcia (Pienza, San Quirico, Bagno Vignoni), Amiata, Umbria (Perugia, Assisi, Lago Trasimeno).

The wines:

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of the outstanding traditional Tuscan D.O.C.G wines. Sangiovese, here called “Prugnolo Gentile”, is combined with Canaiolo Nero, to produce a masterpiece. Wine with the appellation "Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG" must undergo an ageing period of at least two years, at least 3 years for qualification "riserva". Rosso di Montepulciano is a sort of a younger, "declassified" Nobile and was created so people could drink a more immediately accessible Nobile to age.
