TOUR PROGRAM
Days 1 – 2: Bologna, Modena, Parma
After arriving in BOLOGNA, you’ll head west to the hills around PARMA and MODENA, famed for prosciutto, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and balsamic vinegars. It’s here that you’ll discover the many variations of contemporary Lambrusco wines, ideal partners of the local delicacies. The journey continues through the Colli Bolognesi hills around the regional capital of Bologna to enjoy the local white wine, Pignoletto that’s rapidly gaining a name for itself. During this part of the tour you’ll have the opportunity to explore Motor Valley with a factory visit at Ducati, one of the world’s favourite motorcycle firms for its performance and style.
Days 3 – 4: Romagna wine areas
Heading east for Bologna, you’ll get to know the sublime character and versatility of Albana, Italy’s first white DOCG wine in styles ranging from Traditional Method sparkling wines to sweet passito and gain insights into the local Romagna Sangiovese. You’ll also get to grips with the region’s wine geography and try more of the region’s wines, including rediscovered minor varieties and wines from other parts of the region, at the regional wine cellar hosted in a medieval castle in the village of DOZZA, known as the painted village for its 100+ murals.
Days 5 – 6: Optional Extension – Romagna Sangiovese
With this optional extension you’ll stay at a luxury wine resort and explore the most captivating production areas of Romagna Sangiovese, gaining further insights and understanding of the 16 recently introduced subzones. You’ll also try some of the area’s rediscovered varieties such as semi-aromatic white Famoso and red Centesimino and have the chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage sights of stunning Byzantine mosaics in RAVENNA before heading back to Bologna at the end of the tour.
